Apprenticeship: 5 Reasons To Start
If you’re reading this, you probably already know that it’s National Apprenticeship Week 2022, the 15th annual 7-day celebration of apprenticeships. It aims to bring businesses and apprentices together right across the country.
Build the future
The theme for this year is ‘Build The Future’, which is a reflection on how apprenticeships can really help equip young people with the skills and knowledge needed for a prosperous career. Many people do not recognise the opportunities an apprenticeship can bring. The positive impact it can make to individuals, businesses, and the economy.
So, we asked our Business Manager and apprenticeship expert, Jakki Lovewell, to give five reasons you should consider starting an apprenticeship.
Earn whilst you learn with an apprenticeship
One misconception people often have about apprenticeships is that you do not earn money whilst completing it. But this is not true. Your employer pays you a salary while completing your apprenticeship, so you can earn whilst you learn! Another misconception is that the money you earn is always minimum wage. Depending on the type of apprenticeship you undertake this will vary, and many employers pay above the minimum.
Learn from highly skilled colleagues
When joining an apprenticeship, the AEA team sources the best apprenticeship programs with very well-established training providers around the country. We ensure you are working within teams with lots of experience and knowledge to share. You enter a workplace that allows you to learn.
Achieve academic qualifications all the way through to Masters
Another reason apprenticeships are great is because of the variation they offer. You can study them from Level 2, going all the way through to Masters level. That means you can study a course that is the equivalent level of a degree and gain first-hand experience while doing so. It’s another reason what makes them so attractive.
Meet new friends and develop social skills
When studying, you are often working alongside like-minded people. This opens up opportunities to meet new people and gain friends. It allows you to develop your social skills, which is beneficial both in the short term and will help with your prospective career.
Gain transferable employment skills from your apprenticeship
The skills you gain are often transferable across many different roles and sectors. This means that you can take what you’ve learned during your apprenticeship and apply it to almost anything, opening ample opportunities and pathways in your career.
