What exactly is an apprenticeship?
So, you’ve decided to take a turn down the apprenticeship route. But what exactly does an apprenticeship entail?
EARN whilst you LEARN
Apprenticeships are a great way to get ahead in your career. Not only do you gain valuable on-the-job experience, but you can also earn while you learn! Who said learning has to be boring? You’ll also be studying for a formal qualification – typically for one day per week at college or university. Ultimately by the end of the apprenticeship, you’ll have developed the skills and knowledge to be successful in your chosen career. With apprenticeships, you can have all the fun of experiencing something new and still reap the rewards! So why not give it a go?
Hundreds of opportunities to choose from
There are many types of apprenticeships, depending on the career path that interests you. You can become an apprentice in areas like Accounting, Business Administration, Engineering and more! The qualifications you can get from an apprenticeship vary from industry to industry but usually include NVQs or Technical Certificates.
Learning from the professionals
During your apprenticeship program, you’ll be provided with hands-on opportunities for mastering key skills required in the field. You’ll also benefit from working alongside experienced professionals who can help guide and mentor you as you develop your craft. When it comes to getting ahead in life, there is no substitute for hard work and dedication – but an apprenticeship provides the perfect combination of learning and earning to give you a leg up in the industry.
MONEY, MONEY, MONEY!
The length of an apprenticeship is typically between one and two years however depending on the level of qualification being achieved, some apprenticeships may last up to 6 years! Another great thing about apprenticeships is they pay! How much you earn varies according to your age, the type of apprenticeship and the region of the UK where you are based. However, you should expect at least the national minimum wage for your age bracket.
What’s required from you
Entry requirements vary depending on the level of apprenticeship you’re looking for. The general entry requirements for an apprenticeship are that you must be 16 or over and no longer in full-time education. Additionally, you may need multiple varying GCSEs at grade C/4 to gain access to higher-level schemes. Also, there’s no maximum age limit for an apprenticeship so you’re free to apply at any age!
