Upskilling your furloughed workforce

The Department of Education has launched a collection of job-related online courses for furloughed workers teaching, numeracy, coding and internet skills.

Education Secretary Gavin Williamson urged furloughed employees to “improve their knowledge, build their confidence and support their mental health so they have skills they need to succeed after the coronavirus outbreak”.

The Skills Toolkit campaign has been launched with The Open University and Google among some of the providers.

The site states that digital and numeracy skills are amongst those that are most sought after by employers, and can help individuals progress in work and boost their job prospects. Digital skills can be anything from using social media and staying safe online to coding, programming or digital marketing. You can choose from a selection of high quality courses put together in collaboration with experts.82% of all job vacancies require digital skills. Find out more about why digital skills matter. If you’re new to online learning or coming back to it after some time, see the advice on getting the most out of online learning.

The Department for Education says the number of digital jobs is continuing to grow faster than in most employment sectors.

As it is expected more people will be working remotely the training is focused on improving skills for online jobs.
