GCSE Results Day 2023 - What's next?

Currently, you’ll be partaking in your GCSE examinations. This means that your GCSE Results Day will also be fast approaching – probably the most important day in teenagers’ lives thus far. This is when you find out if all the hard work over the past few years has paid off.

Do you know when results day is and what to expect? Whether a student or parent, it helps to be prepared for what is to come. We have created this handy guide of what to expect and help prepare for the big day and what your options are following your results…

When is GCSE Results Day?

GCSE Results Day takes place on Thursday 24th August 2023.

When will I be able to access my results?

You will be able to access your results from 8am on the day by going into school. If you are on holiday or unable to go in for your results, you can request in advance for them to be delivered by email or post.

I’ve got the results I wanted – what’s next?

So it’s good news for you, well done! But what’s next? You may have already decided to stay on and study A-Levels or you may have changed your mind and now want to explore some alternatives. Have you considered an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is available to anyone over the age of 16 and is a great opportunity to start building a career. It allows you to develop skills using hands-on experience in real-life settings. Working alongside experienced colleagues means you will pick up a whole host of useful techniques and transferable skills too.

You could consider a BTEC, these range from Levels 1 & 2 (equivalent to GCSE), to Level 3 (equivalent to A-Level) and Levels 4-7 (equivalent to Degree). They have built themselves a strong reputation for themselves in helping young people progress onto university, with 95% of UK Universities accepting BTECs as recognised entry requirements.

Employers value those with BTEC qualifications as they are usually industry-related, preparing young people for the world of work. They’re a great option for those looking to build a career for themselves.

What if I didn’t get the results I wanted?

If you didn’t get the GCSE results you wanted, don’t panic – you can still start an apprenticeship! We have a number of Level 2 apprenticeships currently available to start in September. If you are unsure what to apply for, contact one of our apprenticeship experts who will discuss the best option for you.

Why choose an Apprenticeship over A-Levels or a BTEC?

Many young people choose to study A-Levels after receiving their GCSE results. A-Levels and BTECHs are a solid options as a route to university, but what if you don’t want to go to university or study full time? Apprenticeships are a real alternative and can provide more value.

While A-Levels help you learn new skills and broaden your knowledge, they do not put any money in your pocket. Apprenticeships, on the other hand, do. Studying a 2-year apprenticeship could see you earn up to £30,000, maybe even more. That’s compared to earning £0 studying A-Levels for 2 years.

Additionally, it’s important to consider which learning style best suits you. Are you suited to full-time academic learning, do you perform well in exams or are you better with hands-on practical work? Apprenticeships offer you the opportunity to learn on the job. So if you are someone who leans more toward practical learning, an apprenticeship is a great option for you.

Build your career with an apprenticeship

Apprenticeships, A-Levels and BTECs offer alternative routes post-16, but the apprenticeship route shines bright when it comes to building a career! It offers the chance to study in the area you want to pursue a career in, develop relevant skills needed for that industry and potentially secure employment following the apprenticeship. It offers such an opportunity for young people to build their career!

Whatever you decide is your next course of action, we wish everyone who has sat GCSEs this year the very best of luck. The most important thing to remember is you have plenty of options and support available to you.
